Situated at the base of the Basilica, this statue stood roughly eight feet tall. I knew immediately when I had scouted this location that I wanted to include it in the frame, hopefully as a focal point, the problem being the position of the statue relative to the rest of the massive structure.

To make sure the statue stayed the main focal point of the image I broke out my trusty 14mm and dropped my tripod down to about waist level. With a little ingenuity and a small neck cramp I was finally able to compose a shot which included both the statue and the tower behind. Though, admittedly, I was not able to catch as much of the basilica as I would have liked to.

In the end, though I wasn’t able to capture the exact shot I had in my head I think I came away with a pretty unique capture. Definitely an image with a lot of emotional value, and one that I feel really gives the viewer an idea of the size and grandeur of this massive architectural achievement.

Wonderful spot, one I will probably return to this winter … if the snow ever flies that is. Damn you global warming, damn you all to hell!
