Tonight, in hopes of switching things up a bit I would like to start things off with a photographic timeline of the creation of this image.
In this case, I think time speaks louder than words. Especially when it comes to the amount of post work that goes into this type of image. Much less when you do it twice!
All right, well now I suppose it’s time for the story behind the pixels. Tonight’s story begins much the same way that many have, with Ryan and I loading up the SUV and heading off in search of photographic adventure. Our original destination was a popular, yet little known, surfing spot known as Higgins Beach.
I know what you’re thinking, and yes there is surfing in Maine. Hell, these guys are so hard-core they even surf in the winter! That’s forty degree water, folks.
Needless to say, the surf apparently wasn’t aware that we were coming and decided to call in sick. So, sullen and defeated we decided to head back.
Are you kidding? Defeat is not even in our vocabulary. Instead we pulled an illegal U-turn and decided to head North up Route 77 to see what fate had in store. We ended the day at Two-Lights State Park, a spectacular arrangement of glacially formed limestone that juts out into the tumultuous Atlantic about 3 clicks South of Portland Head Light. Ok, I’m kidding I have no idea what a click is, but it sure sounds cool.
So, in the spirit of getting myself to bed before dawn and keeping you from falling asleep on your keyboard I will make a long story short. Ryan and I decided a re-match was in order to settle our previous, unresolved, photographic duel. As you can see, his cat like reflexes and superior leg strength gave him an unfair advantage.
Fair or not, he walked away the victor, at least until our next encounter.
