I know I am beginning to sound like a broken record when it comes to singing Emily’s praises.
However, that being said, this girl was not only willing to go out in the middle of the night, in November, in the rain, in Maine, to jump in a mud puddle…she was stoked!
I don’t care how often you work with models or talent in any sense that kind of devotion to the final image is not easy to find.
Houser and I had been tossing this idea around for awhile now, and when we had our favorite model over for some make-up work we figured it wouldn’t hurt to get her opinion. Much to our surprise she not only liked the idea, she insisted that we use her and that we go out that very night.
Not people to insult a guest, Houser and I kindly agreed, grabbed our gear and headed out into the rain. The shot was composed roughly 1/10 of a mile down a trail at a local park. We set up my two SB 900s, one as a main front light and one as a backlight, both set to roughly ¼ power. We were moving quite fast to keep both Emily and my equipment from freezing, so I can’t remember all the settings to be honest.
What I can say is that this was one of the coolest photo shoots I have ever been on. Nothing beats being out in the dark, in the rain, in November with your camera and good friends!
