Search Continues ... | 05:21AM Sep 04, 2007

I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath for the conclusion to our story. No worries, friends, your wait is over.

Upon seeing the Coast Guard chopper (which, we found out today, had flown up from Hyannis Cape Cod) fly over, Ryan and I decided to follow and see what we could see. Turns out, there wasn’t all that much to look at. The only visible signs of activity were the rotating blue lights on the water and an occasional search flare, lighting up the night in a somber fireworks display.

We sat on the shore and watched the search teams scour the harbor for roughly two and a half hours, before deciding we would probably learn more simply waiting for the morning news report. As it turns out the search was for an off-duty Coast Guardsman who had apparently fallen off a cruise ship in Casco Bay. At the time of this post he is still officially missing.

This shot was taken looking away from the harbor and the search and rescue hubbub. It was roughly a two-minute exposure, capturing the natural light hitting the lighthouse and adjoining walkway, as well as the light streaks created by the search boats circling area behind the lighthouse.

Once again this image does not have much in the way of post processing work, rather it is almost all created in camera. Such an unusual feat for this photographer! But hey, it is nice to know that I can still navigate around f-stops and shutter speeds.
