Since I have been a kid one of my favorite activities has been to follow the myriad streams and brooks that criss-cross through our states lush forests. My interest in chasing the flowing water only increased as I became more and more familiar with my camera. After I finally learned that a shutter could be left open long enough to blur the motion, my love affair with flowing water was complete.
If ever I hear the familiar gurgle of flowing water while in the woods I cannot help but find its source. Once located, the stream becomes my guide. I follow each bend and detour faithfully, uncovering new surprises at almost every turn. This is perhaps my favorite feature of flowing water, no matter how far you follow the stream you will never see the same cascade twice. The water moves and changes with each obstacle, finding its own way to continue on its course.
This idyllic scene was merely only a few yards down stream from Screw Auger Falls, and it’s often over crowded viewing area. These are the spots I love, the ones few people will ever realize are there, much less get to experience.
This particular shot is my personal favorite of the series. I enjoy the lush green tones visible in the moss and treetops, as well as the unique path the water takes as it falls into the tranquil pool below. Though, as always I am very interested in hearing your opinion.
