Into the break | 07:23AM Nov 09, 2007

Surfers weren’t the only wave washed adventurers that showed up at the beach that day. Among those plunging into the tumultuous surf were two white water kayakers.

Upon seeing them unloading their boats from their roof rack, I quickly made my way over to the stretch of sand they were using to prep and introduced myself. I followed them, camera in hand, all the way into the water. Considering I was fully clothed, I decided to stop around knee height.

This shot was taken as they pushed their way through the imposing breakers. The toughest part of days like these is just getting out past the break. I mean just look at the wall of water he is pushing through, only to be walloped by the next wave. It can surely be demoralizing journey.

Though, once you catch your first real nice wave, it’s well worth the pain.
