I am hoping that at least some of you out there in movie land have heard of Maine's famous Moody's Diner. This nearly century old roadside eatery has been a staple for those driving Coastal Route one for as long as nearly anyone can remember. In days of yore, aka before I95 bypassed it, Moody's used to be a very popular stop for truckers and motorists alike.
Today, after two books, countless jokes, and nearly 80 years after the doors were first opened, Moody's stands as a monument to what locals refer to as, "the good-ol' days." The weathered bar, a haven for the hungry, stands exactly where it stood the first day the neon sign clicked on. The rest of the restaurant, however, has grown up around it's original structure, to almost double its original size.
One of my all-time favorite spots to eat, I would recommend Moody's to anyone with plans to motor north. What the classic road side diners of Route 66 did for the Southwest, Moody's along Coastal Route 1 does for Down East Maine. So, remember if you find yourself in the small town of Waldoboro, Maine, don't forget to look for the flashing neon sign.
