End of an era | 05:16AM Nov 26, 2007

All along the coast, in the few secluded bays and inlets that are left, you can still find one of Maine’s most treasured resources, the sheltered waters of a working harbor.

With the encroachment of wealthy landowners on the once working shorefront, fishermen who have worked off the same docks for generations are being forced to sell. I hope I never see the day when sailboats out number lobster boats in Maine’s secluded harbors.

Anyways, enough touchy feely gobble-e-gook for tonight, lets get on with the photography. What I did here, after nabbing this guy from my archive of course, was run this guy through a pretty intense session of tone processing. I pulled out as much texture as possible, all the way from the leaves in the trees to the ripples in the water.

On a bit of a side note, I would like to answer a few questions that were asked of yesterday’s image. First, yes I did follow my curves x-processing technique exactly as it is written in Photoshop User. It is true that by leaving your end points in tact you are ensuring that your color cast only effects the neutral tones, leaving your white and black points untouched. This helps to keep things looking natural.

Hope you all enjoy a taste of the REAL Maine. This is a side of the Pine Tree State that only a few get to see.
