Christmas on the Reservation | 06:44AM Dec 25, 2007
Well, it appears we have ourselves a Christmas miracle! Believe it or not, Mark Fleming actually got off his butt and went out into the wild to capture some new photographic material. All right, so when I say ‘wild’ it’s a bit of a relative term. I mean, there were plenty of trees, live fish, and even a 40 foot waterfall, but the fact of the matter is I never stepped foot outside.
How is this possible you ask? Simple, while visiting my brother for the Holidays, I decided to make a Christmas Eve stop at Mohegan Sun. Mohegan Sun is Connecticut’s second largest casino, and as such is quite an experience. From the food court with stream running through the middle, to the domed casino ceiling that mimics the sky outside The Sun, as it called, is nothing short of pure opulence.
At first I was doubtful that I would make it past security toting my pro camera body, after all casino’s don’t usually take documentation of any kind lightly. However, after a simple bag check I was allowed through camera, lenses, bag, and all.
This shot was taken from the main section of the casino’s shopping area. The glass sculpture in the center and the grand 40-foot waterfall behind are two of the main attractions inside the casino. I am sure I speak for many people when I say that standing at the base of the falls is quite a sight.
Processing here involved HDR conversion from a single RAW file, minor curves correction, blending with the original exposure, and cross processing for a finishing touch.
Hope you all have a wonderful holiday!
