Drawing my inspiration here from my good friend, Bess Marine, I decided to accompany tonight’s primary image with a behind the scenes shot of yours truly in action.
The top image was taken shortly after yesterday’s, as Tom and Steve inched their way into the oncoming surf. I dropped down as close to the sand as possible to gain a better perspective on the kayak as it was hit by an approaching wave. Other than protecting my non-weather sealed 5D from the salt water, there really wasn’t much involved with this shot. I simply got as close as possible and snapped away.
Processing for the top image is much the same as was used for yesterday’s post. I processed this image twice, once as an HDR and once as a traditional exposure. I then blended the two images using various layer masks.
I decided to include the bottom, “behind the scenes,” shot as almost an after thought. I was browsing through my images from the day when I came across this shot. Bess had snapped it while holding my second camera, after I had taken off into the surf.
I couldn’t help but notice that my point of view in this shot was almost identical to the shot above. Though it isn’t the same moment, I really felt that these two images together really provided an interesting perspective.
Photographs are like stories, not only are they worth a thousand words, but there also two sides to every one.
