Another shot from my stroll around Bates. I shot this guy knowing I was going to process him as a black and white. I never know how things will look in B+W, and honestly the shots I feel will look good in camera often look horrible. It's the ones that I don't think twice about that usually turn into something worth while. This shot, though, really did it for me. Not sure exactly what it was, but something about the sky, weeds, and water just came together to make a really cool shot for me.

One thing that I do think is worth mentioning, is that I took this with my trusty 50mm 2.5. I say this because it has always been my firm belief that if you find yourself struggling for inspiration and truly want to get back to your roots all you need to do is throw on your 50 and go for a walk. No photographer should ever be without a 50mm, its the one lens that should be in EVERY bag.

All of that to say, that breaking out my 50 gave my eye a revitalising kick in the ass. This shot, I feel, is a good example. One that I would have ordinarily tried to squeeze out of my 24mm only to find it way to wide. Restricting myself to the 50 got me to really think about my frame and how I was going to fit what I needed in without stretching it to far.

Oh, and yes I am obsessed my new toy - sloppy borders. Don't worry, the obsession will fade in time. Until then, bare with me people!
