All right, so I lied. What can I say? I was taking one last look through my church shots and came upon this little baby. Apparently, during my first edit I didn’t find this one particularly interesting. However, upon a second review I think its pretty darn cool.

I took this photo as an after thought, while walking away through the tall grass I decided I really wanted to portray the feeling of isolation, being an abandoned church in the middle of Western and all. My photographic solution was to drop myself into the overgrown weed population and see what happened. As it turns out, an ant colony happened, but hey all in the name of a good photograph, right?

Processing here was started, as usual for this series, by combining exposures in Photomatix. For this image, however, I used one RAW file processed at three different exposures. After bringing it into the shop I added a whole bunch of adjustment layers, mostly for selective contrast and toning. The end result is pleasantly vintage and sharp to the touch. Well, at least that’s my take on it.

HEADS UP:
You will recall that earlier this summer I had posted a short series on the guys from Last Ditch Racing working on their performance rally car in their garage. This week I finally get to see that car in action! That’s right, this week is the much-coveted Maine Forest Rally. Multi-million dollar performance machines racing through the Maine woods on logging roads, and of course your friendly neighborhood photographer there in the flesh to document it all. Well, at least the part where I’m not running for my life dodging flying auto-parts. Any who, all of this to say that I will be away from my trusty computer for roughly five days, during which time you will be graced with daily automatic posts from our trip to the mill. Though, I’m sure you’ll all miss me terribly please be comforted by the fact that if all goes well I should return with tons of post worthy material.
