This weekend I had the privilege of attending a Last Ditch Racing pre-season get together. Last Ditch Racing is a performance rally racing team based out of Bangor, Maine.

For those of you who are not familiar with performance rally racing, I’ll give you the quick and dirty explanation. Rally is a fast paced style of racing that takes place mostly on unpaved back roads. Courses run for hundreds of miles, throughout all sorts of terrain, testing both driver and car to the limit. Very popular in Europe, and just starting to take off in the United States, rally racing is quickly rising through the ranks of today’s extreme sports.

I will be following Last Ditch Racing to the Maine Forest Rally later this summer, as part of an on going editorial project. Though the prospect of cars traveling at speeds upwards of 150 miles per hour through the Maine woods does bring butterflies to my stomach, one thing is certain, this opportunity should lead to some interesting photo ops.
